Bento Loves The Lads

We’ve been talking since day one at Bento about whether or not we’ll do menswear. It’s definitely on the cards, but menswear is such a different market so you really need to get your timing and pitch right. At any rate – guys, we haven’t forgotten you.

We stumbled across a website called My Vintage Vogue this week which holds a treasure trove of old images, from magazines like Vogue and Glamour. A few of our favourites of the lads from the pre skinny jeans days below… (click on any to make it larger)

Bento Loves… Style Icons

Mmmm. Style icon. It’s a term that gets bandied around a fair bit these days. Of course, as quickly as someone is declared a style guru and icon they’re off the list again (Sienna Miller, anyone?). For us though, a style icon isn’t about a trend or a particular look. It’s about a person knowing themselves, their lifestyle and their body so well that they always look good. They don’t even need to be a celebrity (although that does make their style more accessible).

Of course, the word ‘good’ is very relative and what looks good to one person almost definitely won’t to another… but this is part of what makes a style icon such a personal thing.

At Bento, we look to women like these as our style icons…

Karla’s Closet – Such style, such flair… a penchant for rather high end footwear, but with a very healthy dose of vintage. What we truly adore about Karla though is that if you’re a long-term reader, you’ll notice she actually recycles pieces. That is, you’ll see the same garment styled different ways over time. Moreover, she actually has favourites that will crop up regularly. It’s so nice to see a style blogger that isn’t all about the new.
